Poll: New Plotter Paper?

The KSA IT Staff is considering changing the standard type of paper that we provide for the 36" color plotters. To give everyone input into this decision, we have posted a series of test plots in the hallways outside 171 Brown Hall and 213 Vivian Hall. These plots show the differences between several types of paper. After looking at these demonstrations, please answer the poll to register your choice.

To see the poll, you will need to use Internet Explorer and log in with your KSA username and password in the format below:

Log Back In To See Gui Animations Folder

If you are a senior looking to submit an animation for this afternoon's Gui competition, it may be necessary for you to log off and log back on before you see the submissions folder (the N:/ drive). We discovered an error in the script this morning; it has been fixed, but you will need to log back on in order to access the folder.

Please contact Matt in Vivian Hall if you have any additional problems.

Transfer Folder, Vivian Printing Restored

After being paged on Sunday afternoon with reports of trouble, the IT Staff was able to restore access to both the Transfer Folder and to printing in Vivian Hall. Students may have to log off and log back on to restore their access to these resources. Everyone should also be aware that the IT Staff might have to bring both of these resources down again in the coming days to perform more permanent maintenance; hopefully that will not be necessary until at least the week after this.

New Virus Targets Image and Movie Files

A new variant of the MyDoom virus has been identified; unlike most viruses, this variant will actively delete files from an infected computer - including JPEG images, AVI movies, Word documents and Excel spreadsheets. Read the text of the email that has been sent to the school about this threat here.

Vivian 120 Will Be Closed Today

The downstairs computer lab in Vivian Hall (room 120) will be closed today for re-imaging. It will re-open as soon as some of the computers in the room are usable again, no later than 5 PM.

At 2 PM this afternoon (Friday, 1/23/04) there will be a brief network outage as the IT Staff implements our new school firewall. This outage should be very brief - a few seconds long. This message will be updated to reflect any updates to this process, so check this site if you have any questions.

Transfer Folder Restored

The network Transfer folder is once again available, as of 4:55 PM on Wednesday. There remains a possibility that the IT Staff will have to bring it down again on Thursday during the day, but we will notify everyone in advance should that become necessary.
