OVERVIEW

The ULS laser cutter has proven to be the most popular piece of equipment in the Fab Lab because of its ease of use and the variety of ways in which it can produce models. The laser cutter is the technological equivalent to a pen plotter - only instead of moving an inked tip around the plot area, it moves a laser.

The vital statistics for the ULS laser cutter are:

  • 24" by 12" work area
    You can process materials which are slightly larger than this, but the laser is limited to a 24" x 12" area.
  • 30 watt laser
    This affects several aspects of laser use: the thickness of material you can cut through, the types of material that can be used, and how quickly the machine will produce your work.
