This document describes some common problems with the Microscribe digitizer, and how to solve them.
Common Problems
- You cannot connect to the digitizer
Please ensure that you are connecting to the digitizer using the COM4 port - not the USB port or any other COM port. The connection speed (baud) seems to be irrelevant. Please note that when you establish a connection to the digitizer, you will not receive any indication that you have done so - the only messages you will receive is when the connection cannot be made.
While in the past it was inadvisable to turn off the digitizing arm, that is no longer the case. The school purchased a replacement power supply for the arm during Winter Quarter 2006, which solved the problem of the arm taking several hours to power up completely.
If you have any additional problems with the Microscribe digitizing arm, please file a Problem Report.
